Behavior experts reference research conducted by Frederick Calhoun and Steve Weston’s on threat management and further describes the six progressive steps that may be observable by colleagues. The video also includes law enforcement expert interviews that discuss engagement strategies and recommended responses to someone potentially on a pathway to violence.  Course handouts further cement the major themes of this training.

The U.S. Equal Opportunity Employment Commission (EEOC) defines workplace sexual harassment as unwelcome sexual advances or conduct of a sexual nature which unreasonably interferes with the performance of a person’s job or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment. Sexual harassment can range from persistent offensive sexual jokes to inappropriate touching to posting offensive material on a bulletin board. Sexual harassment at work is a serious problem and can happen to both women and men.

This course will outline types of workplace sexual harassment, giving the learner a deeper understanding of the issue with the end-goal of actively promoting a harassment-free workplace.

Mass murder on the job by disgruntled employees are media-intensive events. However, these mass murders, while serious, are relatively infrequent events. It is the threats, harassment, bullying, domestic violence, stalking, emotional abuse, intimidation, and other forms of behavior and physical violence that, if left unchecked, may result in more serious violent behavior. These are the behaviors that supervisors and managers have to deal with every day.

This course will cover case studies and offer strategies to help prevent the violence before it escalates.  Topics include Sample Workplace Violence Policy Statements, Questions in a Threat Assessment, Sample Threat Assessment, and a review of What Doesn't Work.

What are the two basic types of harassment?  What are the characteristics of a "hostile work environment"?  At what point does harassing conduct violate the law?  Broader than "sexual harassment", the material in this course will enable you to understand the characteristics of workplace harassment, and develop the attitudes and actions important to a harassment-free environment.
